Research Context: Source edition/date: 18 June 2024. Research reviewed on 2 November 2026.

A factory’s general capability list does not establish whether it can make your product consistently. A better enquiry explains the material, drawings, tolerances, quantities and acceptance process, together with the information that is still uncertain.

Understand the Research Context

UNIDO released its Industrial Development Report 2024 on 18 June 2024. The report discusses industrial development and policy; it does not assess the capability of an individual factory. Read the UNIDO: Industrial Development Report 2024 for the original context. The practical questions below are Best10Companies editorial analysis, not the source organization’s checklist or an endorsement.

What to Ask Before You Commit

Ask candidates to identify process constraints before they quote. Discuss tooling ownership, revision control, inspection records and how nonconforming output will be handled. Keep sample approval separate from approval of the full production process. A low unit price may exclude testing, packaging or tooling work that another proposal includes. Make those differences visible in the comparison.

Check Evidence to Request
Specification A controlled and complete revision
Commercial scope Tooling, inspection and packaging costs
Acceptance Samples, production checks and nonconformance handling

A Practical Exercise

Use the same drawing revision and order scenario with each shortlisted manufacturer. Record questions and exceptions in one comparison sheet so that price is not evaluated against mismatched assumptions.

Build a Clearer Shortlist

Use the same brief when you compare companies offering Manufacturing & Engineering services. Keep the answers, assumptions and exclusions together so that a later decision is based on comparable information. When you are ready to post your requirement, describe the scope and the evidence you need rather than requesting a general promise of results.
