News Research Brief: Source edition/date: 5 October 2023. Research reviewed on 2 November 2026. This is a dated explainer, not a claim of a newly announced event.
A design review can approve colours while overlooking keyboard focus, error messages and the order of an interaction. Those details appear when a person actually tries to complete a task, not when the homepage is viewed as a still image.
Understand the Research Context
WCAG 2.2 became a W3C Recommendation on 5 October 2023. Read the W3C: WCAG 2.2 Recommendation for the original context. The practical questions below are Best10Companies editorial analysis, not the source organization’s checklist or an endorsement.
What to Ask Before You Commit
Ask the designer and developer to agree which interaction states must be shown before implementation. Include focus, errors, loading and confirmation, not only the default component. A small set of well-specified states is easier to test than a library of attractive but incomplete screens. Accessibility work also needs implementation and testing; the design file is one input.
| Check | Evidence to Request |
|---|---|
| States | Default, focus, error and confirmation |
| Responsibilities | Design, implementation and testing |
| Acceptance | A task completed with alternate input |
A Practical Exercise
Review an enquiry form without using a mouse. Record how focus moves, how a required field is identified and how the person discovers that submission succeeded.
Build a Clearer Shortlist
Use the same brief when you compare companies offering Design & Media services. Keep the answers, assumptions and exclusions together so that a later decision is based on comparable information. When you are ready to post your requirement, describe the scope and the evidence you need rather than requesting a general promise of results.
